How far offers reached
Each bar shows how far from Heckmondwike Grammar School the last child offered a place lived, under the last admission rule the offers reached. Up to five years, on one scale.
Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.
Reaching the school's standard means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.
Applications and offers, September 2026 entry (Department for Education)
How many families applied to Heckmondwike Grammar School and how many places it offered. Applicants per place is all applications divided by offers. Families apply to several schools and not every applicant qualifies, so it is not the chance of a place.

About these figures
Heckmondwike does not publish a pass mark. Children have to reach what the school calls the standard for entry, and the score that represents is not printed in advance or afterwards. We have not found the lowest score offered a place in any year either.
What the school's FAQ does give is a picture of a typical year, rather than figures for one particular intake:

Read together, these figures say two things. Most children who register will not be offered a place, so a second choice you are happy with really matters. And living outside the catchment does not rule a child out: a strong exam rank is how many places are won. Treat any past figure as a guide, not a promise.

Why the creative writing works differently. The writing task is not simply added to the other marks. Only children with an eligible score on the English and maths papers have their creative writing marked; they are then rankedHeckmondwike Grammar School 2027 entry: Stage2 selectionChecked 10 Oct 2026 against Heckmondwike Grammar School. The source says: Students with an eligible score from the English and maths papers will have their creative writing task assessed and candidates will be ranked accordingly.

For 2028 entry, the new policy describes the exam only in broad terms. It does not name a provider or list the papers, so we cannot yet confirm that the format above carries over. Two points are worth knowing before you decide:
- A place can still come later. Children who reached the standard but missed out go onto the first waiting list automatically, and it keeps running through Year 7.
- Results are final. The school's documents describe no way to have a paper re-marked or reviewed, and a child sits the exam only once.
Most appeals for heavily oversubscribed grammar schools are not upheld, so put a school you would genuinely be happy with on your form as well.
