In short
Berkshire's grammar schools are in two towns, Slough and Reading, and there is no Berkshire-wide test. Slough's grammar schools share one test, and Kendrick School and Reading School each test separately. Each school sets its own admission rules, so start with the town guide for the schools your child could travel to.
How far offers reached at each school
Listed A to Z. Each school uses its own admission rules, so a longer distance does not mean a place is easier to get.

Schools by town
Listed A to Z by town.
- Grammar schools in Reading. Kendrick School, for girls, and Reading School, for boys. Each runs its own test, with its own registration and results.
- Grammar schools in Slough. Herschel Grammar School, Langley Grammar School, St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School. They share one test, the Slough Consortium test, then each school offers places by its own rules.
Each town page sets out the catchment and priority rules school by school, with a source for every fact.
Choosing across both towns
- Your child sits each test they need. A result from the Slough test does not count for Kendrick School or Reading School, and the other way round. The Slough dates and Reading dates pages list each registration window.
- Where you live can matter as much as the score. Some schools give priority to children in a set area or within a set distance. Read each school's rules before you rely on it, and use grammar schools near a postcode to see what is within reach.
- Scores do not compare across tests. The Berkshire pass marks page explains where each town's scores are published.
Our guide on how to choose a grammar school covers what to weigh up beyond the test.
