How places are given

Northern Ireland grammar schools give Year 8 places using their own admissions criteria, often in order of transfer test result. Bangor Grammar School's criteria are under Admission rules on this page.

Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.

Reaching the school's standard means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.

Checked, source: Department for Education (GOV.UK), checked

Most Northern Ireland schools do not publish how far places reached. Read the school's admissions criteria to see how it ranks applicants, and what transfer test results mean.

More detail from our guide

The school lists its admissions criteria as a PDF on its Year 8 Intake page, but our checking tools are not allowed to read that file. We have asked for it to be captured by hand. Until then, we will not guess at its rules.

When you open that PDF yourself, look first at the entry year printed on it. Then find the Year 8 admissions number, whether Bangor Grammar ranks by band or by score, and how it splits a tie for the last place.

The same page carries guides and editable forms for Special Circumstances and Special Provisions. Both are labelled for last year's cycle, so expect fresh versions for this year. Special Circumstances is the route if illness or another serious problem affected your child on a test day. Special Provisions is mainly for children who could not sit the papers or have come from outside Northern Ireland. Either claim is uploaded with the transfer application, together with evidence.

Children applying here sit the same SEAG papers as everyone else in Northern Ireland.
