How places are given
Northern Ireland grammar schools give Year 8 places using their own admissions criteria, often in order of transfer test result. Christian Brothers’ Grammar School, Omagh's criteria are under Admission rules on this page.
Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.
Reaching the school's standard means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.
Most Northern Ireland schools do not publish how far places reached. Read the school's admissions criteria to see how it ranks applicants, and what transfer test results mean.

Boys living in Northern Ireland come first under either route. After that, the same list of criteria does double duty. On the non-academic route it decides the order outright. On the academic route it only separates boys with equal scores. The list, in order:
- a brother who is at the school, used to be, or has been offered a place for the coming year;
- a parent on the permanent staff or the Board of Governors;
- a parent or grandparent who was a past pupil;
- coming from one of the listed feeder primary schools;
- being the eldest child of the family who can transfer;
- entitlement to free school meals;
- date of birth, oldest first.

Omagh CBS is a SEAG school, but a boy does not have to sit the test to apply. Under last year's criteria the places were shared between a non-academic route and an academic route:
- The non-academic route. No SEAG result is needed. Boys are ordered by family and other criteria only.
- The academic route. Route 2: rank order of the combined Standardised Age Score in the SEAG assessments (or deemed score for accepted SC/SP claims), highest first. Parents must also provide the band.Christian Brothers’ Grammar School, Omagh: Selection metric (2026)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Christian Brothers' Grammar School Omagh.The source says:
Applicants will be admitted by rank order of the combined Standardised Age Score attained in the SEAG Assessments (or the score deemed, in the opinion of the authorised sub-committee, for those regarding whom parental claims for special circumstances or special provision have been accepted), the highest scoring candidate being ranked first

So the SEAG score matters for the larger share of places, and not at all for the rest. The school is also a SEAG test centre, and in 2025 it was one of the centres for the Irish-language papers (see the table above). For more on scores, see results explained and our SEAG transfer test guide.
