How places are given
Northern Ireland grammar schools give Year 8 places using their own admissions criteria, often in order of transfer test result. Glenlola Collegiate School's criteria are under Admission rules on this page.
Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.
Reaching the school's standard means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.
Most Northern Ireland schools do not publish how far places reached. Read the school's admissions criteria to see how it ranks applicants, and what transfer test results mean.

Score first
Strict rank order of TSAS, highest first, until 157 places filled; sub-criteria only to split girls tied on the same score for the final place(s).Glenlola Collegiate School: Selection metric (2026)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Glenlola Collegiate. The source says: After all applications have been considered, Glenlola Collegiate will award places on the basis of these scores, in
strict rank order, with the girl(s) with the highest score being awarded a place first and then, working in descending
rank order until the number of places up to and including the Admissions Number of 157 for the School, have been
filled.
View the official source No minimum score was set. Girls living in Northern Ireland were placed before girls who were not.
Splitting a tie for the last place
When several girls share the score at the cut-off, the school works through a list until the tie is settled: (1) Glenlola named as first preference. (2) Sister enrolled at Glenlola or brother at Bangor Grammar School this school year. (3) Attends a primary school in the Ards & North Down Borough Council Area. (4) Normally resident in the Ards & North Down Borough Council Area. (5) Eldest child eligible to apply ('eldest' = eldest or only girl). (6) Attends a primary school outside the Ards & North Down area. (7) All other girls. (8) Computer-generated random number; highest number gets the place.Glenlola Collegiate School: Tie breakers (2026)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Glenlola Collegiate. The source says: If as specified in points 2 and 3 above, the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, the
following further criteria will be applied progressively in the order stated below until the final place is determined:
View the official source
Three things stand out in that list:
- Your order of preference can count. Naming Glenlola first on the transfer application was the first tie-break. It only matters when girls are tied, but it is worth knowing.
- Brothers count too. A brother at Bangor Grammar School met the sibling step, just as a sister already at Glenlola did.
- Local area, not named schools. There is no list of feeder primaries. Instead, attending a primary school in the Ards and North Down council area, and then living there, come next.
The eldest-child rule has a wider meaning than it first seems: Sub-criterion v: eldest child of the family eligible to apply to the School; 'eldest' defined as the eldest or only girl in the family (twins/multiples joint eldest), also applying where an elder daughter could not be enrolled (completed education, special school, statemented elsewhere, family relocated to NI).Glenlola Collegiate School: Eldest child criterion (2026)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Glenlola Collegiate.The source says: “eldest” will mean the eldest or only girl in the family, with eldest sibling twins (or other multiples) regarded as joint eldest. [...] v) girls who, at the date of their application, are the eldest child of the family to be eligible to apply for admission to the School [details to be provided by parent(s)/guardian(s)];

Girls without a TSAS
If fewer than 157 girls have a TSAS (awarded or determined), all are admitted and girls without a TSAS are then considered, using the sub-criteria if oversubscribed. Special Provisions for girls transferring from outside NI, with more than half their primary education outside NI, or unable to sit one or both assessments. All girls expected to sit SEAG except those taking up NI residence after 25 September 2025.Glenlola Collegiate School: Applicants without result (2026)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Glenlola Collegiate. The source says: Consideration will then be given to those pupils for whom a Total
Standardised Age Score (TSAS) has not been provided or determined. ... NB It is expected that all girls seeking admission to the School should sit the SEAG Entrance Assessments, with the
exception of those girls who take up residence in Northern Ireland after 25 September 2025.
