More about entry from our guide

Channing has a Junior School, which takes girls into Reception, and a Senior School with its own Sixth Form. The Junior School has a separate site on Highgate High Street. Most Junior School girls carry on into the Senior School, so Year 7 is where the largest group of newcomers arrives.

The written test. Channing is one of the London girls' day schools in the London 11+ Consortium. These schools agreed to share a single entrance test, so a girl applying to several of them sits it just once. It is done online, in one session with a short break. The first part covers maths, English, verbal reasoning (working with words and their meanings) and non-verbal reasoning (spotting patterns in shapes). The second part has puzzles, problem solving and a creative comprehension task. A girl whose primary school hosts the test can take it there. Otherwise she sits it at one of the Consortium schools she has applied to.
