How far offers reached
Each bar shows how far from King Edward VI Grammar School the last child offered a place lived, under the last admission rule the offers reached. Up to five years, on one scale.
Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.
A score of 303 or more in the CSSE 11+ examination (English and Mathematics) means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.

About these figures
KEGS publishes detailed outcome data, including the scores of every boy who started and how many boys came off the waiting list each year. The table below shows the lowest scores offered, inside and outside the priority area. These are past results; the line moves each year.
Where the numbers come from: Offer Day figures for 2021 to 2025 are CSSE's historical guidance sheets. The 2026 Offer Day figures and both September columns are KEGS's own, and they leave out boys admitted through the pupil premium and looked-after places. For the lowest outside-area score among boys who started in September 2026, the school's FAQ and its published list of scores do not match, so we have not shown either figure.
Two patterns stand out. A boy from outside the priority area has needed a clearly higher score than a boy from inside it in every year shown. And the September figures sit a little below Offer Day, because places turned down in spring are filled from the waiting list. Scores from this autumn's test are King Edward VI Grammar School: Score data 2027Not yet published by King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford; last checked 9 Oct 2026.The source says: The school will publish data from the Autumn 2026 tests in Autumn 2027.

Reading that as a parent: the priority area is a circle drawn around the school, not a list of postcodes or feeder schools. Inside it, a boy competes for the large reserved block by score alone; outside it, he competes only for the smaller block left over, against boys from anywhere. Pupil premium and looked-after boys have a small number of protected places, with a lower score needed inside the area than outside it.
