How places are given

Northern Ireland grammar schools give Year 8 places using their own admissions criteria, often in order of transfer test result. Sacred Heart Grammar School's criteria are under Admission rules on this page.

Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.

Reaching the school's standard means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.

Checked, source: Department for Education (GOV.UK), checked

Most Northern Ireland schools do not publish how far places reached. Read the school's admissions criteria to see how it ranks applicants, and what transfer test results mean.

More detail from our guide

When we checked, the school's website did not carry a criteria document for any recent year. That is not unusual this early: Schools publish their criteria for Year 8 September 2027 entry during the 2026-27 school year, before the transfer application process begins.Northern Ireland: Criteria publication timingChecked 9 Oct 2026 against SEAG (Schools' Entrance Assessment Group). The source says: Each Board of Governors has a responsibility to publish its Admissions Criteria for Year 8 September 2027 Entry. These Criteria are published in the 2026-27 school year before Parents/Guardians begin the Post Primary Transfer Application Process.View the official source We will add Sacred Heart's rules when they appear.

While you wait, it helps to know what any NI school can see. A school uses only the information on the child's Transfer application when applying its criteria.Northern Ireland: Only form info usedChecked 9 Oct 2026 against nidirect (NI Government). The source says: When considering your child’s application, a post-primary school only uses information on your child’s Transfer application.View the official source The form asks about any brothers or sisters at the school; whether the child is the eldest child, only child or eldest boy or girl in the family; whether the child is registered as entitled to free school mealsNorthern Ireland: Transfer form infoChecked 9 Oct 2026 against nidirect (NI Government). The source says: On the Transfer application, a post-primary school can ask if your child: ... has any brothers or sisters at the school you’re applying to ... is the eldest child, only child or eldest boy or girl in the family ... is registered as entitled to free school mealsView the official source. So if your daughter has a sister at Sacred Heart, or is the eldest girl, make sure that is on the application.

You can also ask for past information. Parents can read admissions criteria and the number of applications schools received for the previous three years.Northern Ireland: Previous years dataChecked 9 Oct 2026 against nidirect (NI Government). The source says: You can read admissions criteria and number of applications schools received for the previous three years.View the official source

Special circumstances. The school's Admission menu already links the forms: The school's Admission menu offers 'A Guide to Claiming Special Circumstances' (SEAG 2025-26 guide) and a 'Claiming Special Circumstances Form'; per the guide, the SC Form and verified evidence are uploaded with the Post-Primary Transfer Application. School-specific procedure not available (no criteria document).Sacred Heart Grammar School: Special circumstances (2026)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Sacred Heart Grammar School. The source says: Complete the SC Form; upload it with the verified evidence to the Post-Primary Transfer Application**View the official source

Girls applying to Sacred Heart sit the SEAG papers in November. The school is also an assessment centre, but where a girl sits the test has no bearing on where she can apply. Each SEAG school sets its own rules for using the results. Some rank by exact score, others by band, and many add family criteria. Until Sacred Heart's criteria are published, we cannot tell you which approach it takes. Our SEAG transfer test guide and results explained cover the scores and bands.
