How far offers reached

Each bar shows how far from Wirral Grammar School for Girls the last child offered a place lived, under the last admission rule the offers reached. Up to five years, on one scale.

Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.

Reaching the school's standard means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.

Applications and offers, September 2026 entry (Department for Education)

How many families applied to Wirral Grammar School for Girls and how many places it offered. Applicants per place is all applications divided by offers. Families apply to several schools and not every applicant qualifies, so it is not the chance of a place.

About these figures

The school publishes no admissions statistics that we could find. It does not print the required score, how many girls applied or qualified, or how far away the last girl offered a place lived.

With places shared out by the rules below rather than by score, distance is what usually decides the last offers. Without a published figure, ask the school or Wirral Council what the final distance was last year, and treat any answer as a guide, not a promise.

The meal-based places. Rule (3) is the school's version of a pupil premium priority. Pupil premium is extra funding schools get for children from low-income homes or who have been in care; this school's rule is based on Targeted Free School Meals instead. Eligible girls fill these places in distance order, and Wirral Council checks the claim. The places sit above sisters and staff daughters, but a girl still has to reach the standard to use one. Give the meal details on the council form so they can be checked.

The school does not run an exam of its own. Its applicants take the same council assessment as girls and boys aiming for the other three non-faith grammar schools in Wirral, and the Wirral 11+ guide explains the papers.

Here is how the school itself describes the process:

  • Registering: Assessment Request Form, online at www.wirral.gov.uk/schooladmissions (Wirral Local Authority), for local and out-of-area applicantsWirral Grammar School for Girls 2027 entry: Registration routeChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Wirral Grammar School for Girls. The source says: An Assessment Request Form will need to be completed and the deadline is 31 May of Year 5. The form is available from 1 May on-line at www.wirral.gov.uk/schooladmissionsView the official source.
  • Turning marks into a result: Each of the two test scores is age-adjusted with conversion tables (exact age in years and months); the two scores are then added together. Weights not printed.Wirral Grammar School for Girls: Score composition (2027)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Wirral Grammar School for Girls. The source says: in each case the score is adjusted by the use of conversion tables to take account of each child’s exact age in years and months. The two test scores are then added togetherView the official source
  • The pass line: Two age-adjusted test scores are added together; girls scoring higher than the required score reach the grammar school standard; places among qualifiers by oversubscription criteria (not by score). The required score is not printed.Wirral Grammar School for Girls: Qualifying rule (2027)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Wirral Grammar School for Girls. The source says: Pupils who achieve a score higher than the required score will be deemed to have achieved the grammar school standard.View the official source
  • Special arrangements: Request special arrangements in the Access Arrangements section of the form when you register for the test (by 31 May of Year 5), with evidenceWirral Grammar School for Girls 2027 entry: Access arrangementsChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Wirral Grammar School for Girls. The source says: If your child has a current EHCP or has any other medical or educational needs that may affect their performance in the assessment, you can request that special arrangements are considered. Parents should complete the Access Arrangements section of the transfer to secondary education form when registering for the assessment.View the official source.
  • Ill on the day: Children who miss the test through illness or absence contact the LA as soon as possible and are tested later in the Autumn term; they must still submit a preference form by 31 October.Wirral Grammar School for Girls 2027 entry: Late testingChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Wirral Grammar School for Girls. The source says: Children who are unable to sit a test due to illness or absence should contact the local authority as soon as possible and they will be tested later in the Autumn term. Parents should still submit a preference form before 31st October.View the official source

Put simply, the age adjustment makes allowance for the youngest girls in the year group. Once she is over the line, her total plays no further part: a girl far above it and a girl just above it are treated alike.

Results, and putting the school first

On the council form, the school is direct: The school's pages say to put it as first preference on your home council's form, by 31 October 2026Wirral Grammar School for Girls: Must name on caf (2027)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Wirral Grammar School for Girls. The source says: You will need to place Wirral Grammar School for Girls as your first preference on your home Local Authority admissions form.View the official source. That is the school's wording, so follow it if this is the school you want most. Whatever you put first, fill the other lines with schools your daughter could realistically be offered, in case she does not reach the standard or the school fills up.
