Quest 11+

By ExamKind Editorial TeamFacts checked 19 October 2026Last reviewed 19 October 2026

In short

Quest Assessments writes 11+ tests for a growing number of grammar schools and consortia, including Bexley, the Wirral and Tiffin School, with Bournemouth and Poole and The Latymer School joining for 2028 entry. Each Quest test is set for a school or a consortium, so the subjects and format depend on where you apply. Quest Assessments states that it is part of the education company Atom Learning.

Changes to who writes the test

These areas and schools change their test provider between entry years, so check which year your child is applying for.

What is a Quest 11+ test like?

There is no single Quest 11+. Each test is set for a school or a consortium: Tiffin's is a bespoke test made with QuestTiffin School: test written with QuestChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Tiffin School. The source says: Each year we work with Quest to create a bespoke test specifically for Tiffin, which also changes annually.View the official source, while the schools in the Dorset consortium share one test. For independent schools, Quest says each school’s Quest test is uniqueQuest: Bespoke per schoolChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Quest Assessments. The source says: Your child’s assessment is unique to the school they’re applying to,View the official source. So always read your school or consortium's own guidance. Two examples show how much the format varies:

  • The Dorset consortium's test: maths, English and verbal reasoningQuest: what the Dorset test coversChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Quest Assessments. The source says: The Dorset 11+ Assessment covers mathematics, English and verbal reasoning.View the official source.
  • The Latymer School's test for 2028 entry has three sections: mathematics, English comprehension and English writingQuest: Latymer sectionsChecked 9 Oct 2026 against The Latymer School. The source says: The September 2027 11+ assessment will consist of three sections: Mathematics, English Comprehension and English Writing.View the official source.

Because tests are bespoke, a practice book labelled "Quest" cannot promise to match your school's paper.

What official preparation does Quest offer?

Quest's guidance page links to a short familiarisation assessment, so children can see the style and format of questions before the day. The page does not say whether it is free. Separately, Quest and some of the schools and consortia it works with offer free access to an Atom Learning product for pupil-premium-eligible childrenQuest: Pp free accessChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Quest Assessments. The source says: With The Dorset Consortium, we are offering free access to Atom Home for all pupil premium eligible candidates.View the official source. Check your school's admissions page for what applies to you.

How can you prepare calmly for a Quest test?

  • Read your school's own guidance first. It tells you the subjects and format for your entry year.
  • Do the official familiarisation questions so the format holds no surprises.
  • Strengthen school learning: reading widely, vocabulary, and confident maths. Quest's Dorset guidance itself says the best preparation is a strong grounding in school learning, combined with wide reading and the ability to apply knowledge to new contextsQuest: advice on preparing for the Dorset testChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Quest Assessments. The source says: The best preparation is a strong grounding in school learning, combined with wide reading and the ability to apply knowledge to new contexts.View the official source.
  • Practise writing if your test includes it, for example Latymer's writing section from 2028 entry.
  • Keep sessions short and regular, and leave time for rest.
