How places are given
Passing the test is the first step, not a place
Children sit the Slough Consortium 11+, written by GL Assessment. A score of 111 or more means a child can be considered for a grammar school place. Each school then gives places using its own admission rules, so qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.
You apply for school places through your home council, on its Common Application Form (CAF), by its deadline. Name the schools in your real order of preference: councils look at every preference at the same time.

More about the schools from our guide
The four schools allocate places in very different ways, so the right list for your family depends on where you live, your child's score and, for St Bernard's, your faith. The last column shows how far offers reached on National Offer Day for 2026 entry. It describes one past year only; past years are a guide, not a promise.
Each school page explains its own rules and what we could and could not check. St Bernard's 2027 policy needs care: we could not download it for checking, so its page links to the school's own arrangements instead of summarising them.
Live near a border?
- You can apply for schools in another council's area. You still apply through your own home council, on its form.
- Each area runs its own test, with its own registration and dates. If you like schools in two areas, check both registration deadlines.
- Schools often give priority to children living nearby or in a catchment area, so check each school's rules before you rely on it.

The eligibility score explained
The rule is simple to state: a standardised score of 111 or above makes a child eligible for consideration (about the top 35%); not a guarantee of a placeSlough: Qualifying ruleChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools (hosted by Upton Court Grammar School). The source says: A score of 111 or greater means that a pupil is eligible to be considered for a place in a grammar school if they were to apply.
View the official source. What happens next is less simple. Does a higher score help? The consortium's answer is that it depends on the school: each school's oversubscription criteria may use rank order, distance or other criteriaSlough: Score used for rankingChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools (hosted by Upton Court Grammar School). The source says: This may involve offering places in rank order, according to distance from the school, or some other criteria.
View the official source. Each school is its own admission authority, so the formal offer of a place comes from the school, not from the consortium.
In practice, the score counts for more at some schools than others. Langley ranks eligible children by score within its priority areas. Upton Court fills a large block of places in score order. Herschel's 2026 offers went first by distance and then by score. St Bernard's places children in categories, where distance and score decided the last places in 2026.

Reviews and appeals

There is no review of the score.
