Kingston 11+: the Tiffin School and Tiffin Girls' tests

The two tests share a shape. Stage One is a multiple-choice round in English and maths that narrows the field. Stage Two is a written round that does most of the work in deciding the final ranking. The details differ, and those differences matter for preparation.

What stands out:

• Weighting. Tiffin weights English and maths equally. Tiffin Girls' gives English the larger share, and its Stage Two English paper includes comprehension and creative writing.
• Who writes the papers. Tiffin works with an outside provider; see our Quest 11+ page. Tiffin Girls' sets and marks its own papers, as covered on our school-set tests page.
• Aptitude places. Only Tiffin offers places for sport and music, and boys had to register early to be considered.
• Help to reach Stage Two. Both schools let some disadvantaged children through to Stage Two if they score a little below the line. The rules are in the "who goes through" row above.

Neither school has a pass mark. Every child who sits Stage Two gets a final score, and places go down the ranking within each school's priority groups. Some priority groups also need a score above a set rank:

• Tiffin Girls': Ranked by combined mark within selection-criteria categories. LAC/PLAC priority and the up-to-60 initial places (Pupil Premium in catchment, then Inner Area) require a combined mark at or above the 350th ranked mark of all who sat Stage Two. At both schools, fewer than half of Stage One candidates go on to sit Stage Two, and far fewer again are offered places. Tiffin Girls' does not publish a lowest score offered in the figures we hold. Pupil premium is extra funding a school receives for a child, mainly children who have had free school meals or have been in care. Both Tiffin schools give these children some help, in different ways.

• Evidence: at Tiffin Girls', pupil premium evidence had to arrive by the registration deadline. For 2028 entry, check each school's evidence deadline when you register.

Appeals rarely change the outcome here. In the three years of figures each school publishes, neither recorded a successful appeal. Places follow the ranking closely, so a strong second choice on your application is your safety net.
