How far offers reached

Each bar shows how far from Altrincham Grammar School for Boys the last child offered a place lived, under the last admission rule the offers reached. Up to five years, on one scale.

Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.

A score of 334 or more in the Trafford grammar schools consortium 11+ test means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.

About these figures

AGSB's qualifying score for 2026 entry was 334altrincham-grammar-school-for-boys-2026-qualifying: ValueChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. The source says: Group 5 (i) All other Applicants with a total standardised ... score of 334 and above.View the official source. Because places go in score order within each group, the lowest score that actually won a place would tell you more. We have not found it published, nor the furthest distance offered or how many boys sat the exam:

We will add these figures if the school publishes them. A past score is a guide, not a promise, and scores from the old reasoning exam will be a weak guide to the new one.

The priority admission area. AGSB draws its catchment from postcodes rather than a radius. Priority admission area: postal addresses in WA13, WA14, WA15, M33 and M23 that lie within Trafford Local AuthorityAltrincham Grammar School for Boys 2027 entry: DescriptionChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. The source says: The priority admission area is defined as “postal addresses of WA13/WA14/WA15/M33 and M23 postcodes which lie within the Trafford Local Authority”.View the official source. Unless a looked-after or pupil premium group applies, a qualified boy living in this area comes before every qualified boy living outside it, whatever their scores.

The priority order. (1) Looked after / previously looked after, score 324+. (2) Up to 20 Pupil Premium, in priority admission area, at a Trafford state-funded primary, score 324-333 (by rank); PP in this group scoring 334+ also admitted in addition. (3) Up to 10 Pupil Premium at a Trafford state-funded primary, score 324+ (by rank). (4) Priority admission area, score 334+ (by rank). Two pupil premium routes. Pupil premium is extra funding schools get for children from lower-income families, mostly those who have had free school meals. At AGSB: Two routes for boys on pupil premium at a Trafford state-funded primary school: up to 20 places for boys in the priority admission area who score 324 to 333 (those scoring 334 or more are offered places in addition), then up to 10 more places for boys scoring 324 or more, wherever they liveAltrincham Grammar School for Boys: Pp priority (2027)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. The source says: Up to 20 applicants who fall within the Pupil Premium criteria, whose permanent home address lies within the school’s priority admission area ... Those applicants who fall within the Pupil Premium criteria (as defined above) and achieve a total standardised score of 334 and above will also be offered places in addition to the 20 places set out above.View the official source. Note the condition both routes share: the boy must attend a state-funded primary school in Trafford.

Who counts as pupil premium. From September 2026, children who are only in the new 'Expanded' free school meals group are not counted as pupil premium; the primary school must confirm pupil premium status in writingAltrincham Grammar School for Boys: Expanded fsm not pupil premiumChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. The source says: Following changes to the FSM categories from September 2026, those individuals who are only included within the Expanded FSM category are not classed as Pupil Premium.View the official source. Why the score keeps counting. Qualify at 334+ (324+ for looked-after and for Pupil Premium applicants in categories 2, 3 and 5(ii)); within each priority category places go in rank order of total standardised score, then distance.Altrincham Grammar School for Boys: Qualifying rule (2027)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. The source says: Applicants whose permanent home address lies within the school’s priority admission area with a total standardised score of 334 and above. Priority admission area is defined in section 8.2. Places will be offered on the basis of ranking as determined by their total standardised assessment selection scores.View the official source In other words, a boy well above the line can be offered a place ahead of a boy just over it in the same group, even if the second boy lives nearer. Distance only separates boys whose scores are the same.
