More about entry from our guide
Wimbledon High belongs to the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), a family of independent girls' schools. It runs a Junior School and a Senior School with a Sixth Form. There are three main ways in, and each works very differently. Reception is not selective at all: places are drawn by ballot. Year 7 has a two-stage test. Year 12 has an assessment day with an interview. Now and then a place also comes up in another year group, and the school handles those one by one.

We test Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning as our first stage for all 11+ candidates.

There is no English or maths paper at 11+ here. Instead, stage one tests verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Verbal reasoning asks a child to solve puzzles with words and letters. Non-verbal reasoning uses shapes, patterns and sequences. Girls sit both with pencil and paper at the school, in a morning or an afternoon session on one of the stage one days. Results of this stage come out in early December.
Stage two, by invitation:

The second stage is the Creative Assessment, held in January. Girls take part in a creative task with a small group of other children, plus some activities on their own. The school describes it as a fun task, and it is not a written test.

Reception is the Junior School's main entry point, and it works by ballot rather than by assessment. Children are not tested. To enter the ballot, a parent must first visit the Junior School at least once at an open event. The draw is split into four groups by date of birth, so that the year has a spread of ages. Sisters of current pupils who are registered by the closing date are offered a place automatically.

Bursaries are for girls entering Year 7 or Year 12. The GDST works out who qualifies, using a family's income and resources. The figure above is the GDST's guide for its London schools: families below it may get some help. A full bursary can cover more than the fee itself, with extra help for uniform, lunches, travel and trips. The GDST says families on much lower incomes, with no assets, may be offered a full award. Our bursaries guide explains what the forms usually ask for.
