The eligible score for 2027 entry

To reach the eligible score, a girl needed both: 92 or above on the age-standardised papers, and a judgement that her Creativity paper was "of the standard".

CCHS has no fixed pass mark. Its admissions committee sets the eligible score each year, after the test, from how that year's girls performed. So this year's figure does not set next year's.

Only girls who met a qualifying standard on the other papers had their Creativity paper judged. The school says it is not releasing that qualifying standard to parents.

An eligible score is not an offer

Under the national rules, admission authorities must take all reasonable steps to tell you the test outcome before 31 October, and must make clear that the outcome does not by itself mean a selective placeTest results before the application deadlineChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Department for Education (GOV.UK).The source says: take all reasonable steps to inform parents of the outcome of ... selection tests before the closing date for secondary applications on 31 October so as to allow parents time to make an informed choice of school - while making clear that this does not equate to a guarantee of a selective place.View the official source. If more girls apply than there are places, CCHS gives places in score order, in this order of priority:

  1. Looked after or previously looked after girls scoring up to 5 marks below an eligible score, from any address.
  2. Girls with an education, health and care plan (EHCP) and an eligible score.
  3. The next 144 places: up to 30 for Pupil Premium or Service Premium girls scoring up to 5 marks below an eligible score and living in the priority area, then the rest to girls with an eligible score living in the priority area, in score order.
  4. The remaining places (up to 36), in score order, wherever the girl lives.

The school has said it cannot tell parents where a girl sits in the ranking, because it does not yet know who has applied.

Re-marks

The school will not re-mark any test papers until after National Offer Day on Monday 1 March 2027Chelmsford County High School for Girls 2027 entry: National Offer DayChecked 9 Oct 2026 against Essex County Council. The source says: Emails for online applicants will be sent on 1 March 2027.View the official source. A re-mark costs £75 a paper, and the Creativity paper cannot be re-marked. The school says the multiple-choice answer sheets are scanned twice by different machines and staff, and that the Creativity papers have already been judged several times by trained staff.

Moving into the priority area

The school's priority area covers addresses within 12.5 miles of the school, measured in a straight line. To count as living in it, a girl must be living there at her permanent home address by Saturday 31 October 2026Chelmsford County High School for Girls: Address date (where your child must live) (2027)Checked 9 Oct 2026 against Chelmsford County High School for Girls. The source says: If the applicant’s permanent home address changes after 31st October 2026 and the change of address would result in a higher ranking, the new address will only be taken into account after the deadline from the Local Authority for accepting or declining a placeView the official source.

If you are moving into the area, the school will ask for proof of your new address and check it before it looks at your daughter's results category. It will do this only after 31 October 2026, so you will not know the outcome before the application deadline.
