How far offers reached
Each bar shows how far from St Bernard’s High School the last child offered a place lived, under the last admission rule the offers reached. Up to five years, on one scale.
Qualifying is not the same as being offered a place.
A score of 303 or more in the CSSE 11+ examination (English and Mathematics) means your child can be considered. If more children qualify than there are places, the school gives places using its admission rules, in order. The figures below show how far those rules reached in past years. They are history, not a prediction: they change every year with who applies.

A dash means the council did not give the figure. The upheld count for 2025 is marked as awaiting confirmation because the school's policy reports it in unclear wording.

Two rows are marked as awaiting confirmation. For the home address date, the school's policy and Southend Council give different dates. For the appeal deadline, the policy and the school's admissions page give different deadlines. Sources disagree in both cases and we are checking; until then, it is safest to have your address settled and any appeal lodged as early as you can.

Three points in the published rules are unclear, and we are checking each one rather than picking a version:
- How distance is measured: the policy describes the method in two different ways in different sections. This matters because distance decides the last places within each criterion.
- Applications without the form: Southend Council's booklet and the school's own form say different things about which criterion such an application falls into. Returning the form, with the evidence, avoids the question.
- The selective area: the policy defines it by postcode (SS0 to SS9), but separate selective-area maps, including the shared St Bernard's and Shoeburyness map, appear to show a smaller area. If you live on the edge, check with the school.
