In short
11+ results are usually given as a standardised score, which adjusts for age and how hard the test was. Each area reports scores in its own way: one score (for example 121 in Buckinghamshire), a total of several scores or a weighted total. This page shows each area's published qualifying score and how it works. We cannot convert raw marks or percentages, because the conversion tables are not published.
How it works
Each area publishes a qualifying score (sometimes called a pass mark). A child whose standardised score is at or above it can be considered for a grammar school place. Where an area combines several test scores, the check asks for each one and works out the total the way the area does: added up, sometimes with a minimum in each test, or weighted, where some tests count more than others. It then compares the result with the published rule and nothing else.
Choose Year 6 to compare with the scores for the coming entry year, or Year 5 to see the most recent published rule while you prepare. Until an area publishes the new year's scores, the check says so and uses the most recent year we have checked, labelled.
In some areas each school sets its own qualifying score, so you choose the school as well. Where places go in rank order with no pass mark, the check says so and shows the lowest scores or ranks offered a place in recent years. Those are past figures, not a pass mark, and we never estimate one.
Qualifying makes a child eligible. It is not an offer: places then follow each school's admission rules, such as distance or catchment.
Where the information comes from
Qualifying scores, scales and weightings come from council, consortium and test-provider publications. Each card shows its source and the date we checked it, and updates from the same records as the area guide.
What this cannot tell you
We do not convert raw marks, percentages or practice-test scores into standardised scores. The tables that do this are not published, so any converter that claims otherwise is guessing.
If a result is close to a threshold, ask the council about reviews and appeals. The area guide explains the rules.
