In short

London's grammar schools sit in a handful of outer boroughs. Each borough, or each school, runs its own test, and each school sets its own admission rules. Start with the borough guide for the schools your child could travel to.

How far offers reached at each school

Listed A to Z. Each school uses its own admission rules, so a longer distance does not mean a place is easier to get.

Schools by borough

Listed A to Z by borough. Each borough page sets out the tests, priority rules and catchment school by school, with a source for every fact.

  • Barnet: Queen Elizabeth's School, St Michael's Catholic Grammar School and The Henrietta Barnett School.
  • Bexley: Beths Grammar School, Bexley Grammar School, Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School and Townley Grammar School.
  • Bromley: Newstead Wood School and St. Olave's Grammar School.
  • Enfield: The Latymer School.
  • Kingston upon Thames: The Tiffin Girls' School and Tiffin School.
  • Redbridge: Ilford County High School and Woodford County High School for Girls.
  • Sutton: Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls and Wilson's School.

Choosing across boroughs

  • You do not have to live in a school's borough to apply. Look at every school your child could travel to, then check each school's rules on where applicants live.
  • Where you live can matter as much as the score. Some schools give priority to children in a set area or within a set distance. Use grammar schools near a postcode to see what is within reach.
  • Register for each test separately. A result from one test does not count for another. The London pass marks page shows where each borough's scores and results are published, and 11+ dates for every area lists the registration windows side by side.

Our guide on how to choose a grammar school covers what to weigh up beyond the test. Many London independent schools set their own entrance tests too; see selective independent schools in London.

One application
